Welcoming Dubbing In Kannada.
Justifying ban on dubbing in the name of protecting kannada culture and language is totally ill-founded.
Firstly, lets see whether dubbing is threat to kannada language.Precisely, the dubbing has started in europe, mainly to safeguard their local languages from the influence of English due to popularity of hollywood movies.
The one of the main reason for hindi and english to have become more popular in Karnataka than in other southern states is ban on dubbing.People are compelled to watch other language movies due to very low proportion of kannada movies being really engaging, entertaining and creative. Many illiterates learn other languages just by watching movies. Therefore dubbing will help in propagating kannada as people will be able to watch good movies in other languages in kannada itself. It will bring back the lost pride in kannada.
Secondly, whether it affects kannada culture? To answer this,we should question ourselves, barring few,how many of the kannada movies made recently are depicting kannad culture.Do we have any good movie bringing to masses the rural folklore, indigenous art forms and rich cultural heritage of karnataka?Answer is straight No.We instead have produced machchu-long based rowdism movies, stereotype mindless love stories. This shows in no way ban on dubbing has protected kannada culture.Instead it has helped the film industry in making remakes of popular movies in other languages. If u ban dubbing, the ban on remake should have been a necessary complement of it in order to preserve kannada culture. This clearly shows the protectionist attitute of family based kannada film industries.
So lets welcome the Competition commission of India(CCI)'s decision to allow dubbing in kannada. It has upheld the constitutional right of every kannadiga to choose what he wants to watch and what he doesn't.It will foster a healthy competition in film industry and help to bring about really good kannada movies. To make kannada movies look distinct from other movies,film-makers will be forced to depict the unique kannada culture and heritage. The concern of many regarding kannada movies losing in front high budgeted movies is also not a right thing.Because time and again,it has been proved that content is the king.Good scripted movies have emerged victorious in front of high budgeted movies.Best example is malayalam movie,Drishyam, which has tasted success cutting across all laguages.
Thus hoping for bright days ahead for Kannada film industry.I think we will definitily see more movies like Rangitaranga,Lucia,Simpallag ond love story......

UPDATE:(06/11/2022)
This post was written in 2015,welcoming Competition Commission of India's(CCI) order lifting ban on dubbing in Kannada film industry.
Many skeptics have predicted doom for our industry due to onslaught of dubbed hollywood and bollywood movies. They were arguing that it will result in loss of livelihood for industry artists and workers.
But,looking back 7 years from then,as was analysed,Kannada film industry has truly evolved into mainsteam of Indian cinema.Today we have mass movies KGF,beautiful emotional drama like Charlie777, a cult clasic like Garuda Gamana Vrushabha Vahana(GGVH) coming out of our industry garnering apperciation from all corners. To mark the peak of this new revolution Kantara got unexpected commercial and critical acclaim by depicting kannada culture and art in its purest form, yet having universal appeal. We today have legendary young directors like Prashant Neel,Rakshit shetty,Rishabh Shetty,Raj Shetty,Pawankumar etc.
The protectionist attitude of our industry had stifled growth of our film industry on par with other southern industries. This lift on ban has weeded out the incompetent and has nurtured the best talent. We now can boast of world class music directors, cinematographers and scripwriters. Hombale films has emerged as giant production house employing thousands of native artists. It is now producing movies in other languages as well.
All Kannada film lovers can very well be assured,we have exciting days ahead!.Cheers!!

CHANDRASEKHAR KHOT.
Please no dubbing. It will spoil our culture and KFI.We should watch it in the original language itself.
