Aamir Khan and Intolerance

It's not wrong on part of Aamir Khan to tell that India has become more intolerant recently,as everybody has right to express their opinions and perceptions. But to think of moving to other country is a serious blow to Indian pride and the betrayal of love and respect,we all fans have given him all these years. When it comes to intolerance,no society can become 100% tolerant in practice,as there will be continuous clash of interests and views between different groups. Some fringe elements, without understanding the value of tolerance are bound to disturb it.In such a scenario, pragmatically we should aim to reduce intolerance to near zero,by keeping such elements under check. As per India is considered,we definitely are in a country, which is relatively more tolerant society compared to most of the other countries. It is a phenomenal achievement taking into account the vast diversity we have, which naturally increases the chances of intolerance. Even if we consider the so called champ...

NJAC Verdict: Erosion of faith in Judiciary

Supreme court in it's verdict on October 16,2015,has declared the 99th constitutional amendment as unconstitutional. This act is related to establishment of National Judicial Appointments Commission(NJAC) for appointment of Judges to Supreme court and high court. Recalling the history. Let's first recall the history that led to enactment of 99th amendment. The Article 124 of Indian constitution says that Every judge of supreme court shall be appointed by the president after consultation with the Chief Justice of India. This word 'consultation' has been interpreted by supreme court in different ways in different judgements. In First judges case(1982),SC held that consultation doesn't mean concurrence of opinion. It only implies exchange of views. But in Second judges case(1993),consultation was interpreted as concurrence of opinion. It said the advice of CJI in appointing judges is binding on President. In rendering such advice CJI has to consult two seniormost j...

Rationalising the Reservation system

Patels' agitation regarding demand for OBC quota has reignited the debate on reservation policy. The skewed reservation system we are following has failed to meet it's objectives and has only caused resentment among the people, especially youth.Memes are up on social media, where americans say-''India,you take the reserved,we will take your deserved'' on the backdrop of Indians heading the global giants like google, microsoft etc. This calls for a pragmatic, honest and rational relook at reservation system. Do we need caste based reservation system? Yes,definitely. All societies in the world are ridden with discrimination. For ex-US has African americans and Indian americans,Europe has it's gypsies,Australia gas aborigines. But Nowhere in the world, the inequality by birth and discrimination so institutionalised as in Indian society due to caste system.People, who say, caste based discrimination no longer exists in India are not in touch with reality. What is th...

Welcoming Dubbing In Kannada.

Justifying ban on dubbing in the name of protecting kannada culture and language is totally ill-founded. Firstly, lets see whether dubbing is threat to kannada language.Precisely, the dubbing has started in europe, mainly to safeguard their local languages from the influence of English due to popularity of hollywood movies. The one of the main reason for hindi and english to have become more popular in Karnataka than in other southern states is ban on dubbing.People are compelled to watch other language movies due to very low proportion of kannada movies being really engaging, entertaining and creative. Many illiterates learn other languages just by watching movies. Therefore dubbing will help in propagating kannada as people will be able to watch good movies in other languages in kannada itself. It will bring back the lost pride in kannada. Secondly, whether it affects kannada culture? To answer this,we should question ourselves, barring few,how many of the kannada movies made recently ...
